Albanian-American Community

About us

Our story

A non-profit community organization, founded in 1998, bringing Albanian-Americans across Greater Houston together.

25+ Years of Service Since 1998
1,000+ Families In Our Community
50+ Events Every Year
10,000+ Lives Impacted Through Service

Arbëria of Houston began the way most good things in a community begin: a handful of families who did not want their children to grow up without the language, the music and the customs they had carried across an ocean. In 1998 they formalised what they had already been doing informally for years, and registered as a non-profit serving the Albanian-American community of Greater Houston.

What we do

We run the Albanian School, where children learn to read and write in Albanian and are taught the history and traditions behind the words. We hold the celebrations that mark our year — Independence Day above all — and we raise the funds that make them possible. We show up for families who need help, and for the wider city that has become home.

Who we are for

Every Albanian-American family in Greater Houston, whether your people came from Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro or the diaspora before that. You do not need to speak perfect Albanian, and you do not need to have been here long. You need only want to belong.

A community is measured by what it gives.

How we are run

Arbëria of Houston is governed by a volunteer board elected by the membership. Board members serve fixed terms and any member in good standing may stand for a position. Our finances are reported to the membership each year.

What we stand for

Four commitments

Four commitments that guide everything the organization does.

Community

Bringing Albanian-American families across Greater Houston together, so that people who share a language and a history are never far from one another.

Heritage

Keeping the Albanian language, music, dress and customs alive in Texas, and passing them to a generation growing up far from where they began.

Service

Turning up for neighbours who need help, and for the wider city that has become home — because a community is measured by what it gives.

Future

Giving young Albanian-Americans the confidence to carry two identities at once, and the support to lead the community that raised them.
